For the Love of Oreos

So yesterday Whitey came home from work and Sammie didn't like him. He would look at her and she would start crying. So I was doing everything for her, feeding her holding her etc. So I took her downstairs to play with her and Whitey came down with a big stack of Oreo's and cup of milk. Sammie looks over jumps up and runs over to him. She gives him a huge hug and kiss, says ooooh and rubs his shoulder, and looks down at his cookies and milk. What can I say? She loves Oreos.

Shaving Off Your Time By a Hair

Whitey has been training this summer for LOTOJA, which is a bike ride from Logan to Jackson. He is doing a relay with his cousin Joe their team name is JOTOWI, very clever eh? Being married to Whitey for four years I've come to realize how when he wants something he focuses 100%. It makes him great at his job, helped him to be a great missionary, helps him to succeed in pretty much anything he puts his mind to. Well he has decided he wants to succeed in this bike race so he has been very focused and most of our conversations deal with biking or end up with biking.

Last week he decided to ride his bike to watch the Tour of Utah bike race. When he returned we were getting ready to go do something and he jumped in the shower. I was sitting there playing with sammie and look at my watch realizing that 10 minutes had gone by... I thought that is wierd, Whitey is usually really fast at showering. So I go in to make sure he hasn't drowned in the shower. As I walk in I see he is not in the shower but in the bath tub, with his leg up my razor in hand and chunks of white hair surrounding him. Here is how the conversation went:

Me: "what are you doing?"
Whitey: "Shaving my legs and arms?"
Me: "Why are you using my razor to do that?"
W: "Because it is a leg razor?"
Me: "it is a razor in general just like your razor"
W: "But it works better for legs"
Me: "You are going to dull my razor"
W: "Will you go get me a new razor head?"
I go get a new head come back
Me: "What made you decide to shave your legs?"
W: "It's what all the professional bike racers do."
Me: "It won't make you faster."
W: "yes it will because I can feel it blowing in the wind on my bike."

I decided to end it there but I wish I would have gotten a picture. He is so funny!

Samantha is #1

Well our little Sammie turned one on Tuesday, August 18th. Crazy that it has been a year and I can't believe how much babies learn each day of their first year! I'm sure every mom feels this way but she is seriously the biggest joy in our life and the perfect fit for our family. She is so pleasant, yet very active... some people would call it hyper. A good example of her personality is today we were at Shivers sharing a rasberry slushie and she threw-up in my purse. I had no idea she felt sick, she was just throwing down the slushie like it was going out of style. After throwing up I was looking at her waiting to see her reaction and she turns around gives me a huge smile and goes for the slushie again.

She has now started to toddle around and is so funny to watch. When she falls its like she wants to fake people out and pretend it was intentional, so she lays flat on her belly and pats the ground and says "ooooh". She makes it look very natural.

Anyway back to the birthday, I would have to say I was more excited for her birthday than I am for my own. We woke up and I sang her happy birthday, then made her our favorite breakfast: waffles. Then to her bath... I let her stay in and play with her toys as long as she wanted because it was her birthday. Then we put on her birthday shirt, that said "birthday girl" so everyone would know it was her birthday. Then I didn't make her take a nap because sometimes I don't think she wants to, and it was her day. I sang her every birthday song I could think of.. all the primary versions of happy birthday, "it's my party and I cry if I want to", "go shorty it's your birthday"...etc. It was funny because before her party I stopped at the grocery store to grab a few things and I wanted to let everyone know it was her first birthday... I held myself back, but if people asked how old she was I was sure to tell them she was ONE TODAY!
I hope she knew that it was her special day. Here are some pics from the party. We had whitey's family, my family and our grandparents over for dinner and a marshmallow roast. It was so fun to have all the people that mean so much to us and love samantha, be there for her big day.

Eating her first birthday cake

Her first cake (of course mickey in honor of her fav. show)

Family Pic before singing Happy Birthday.

Do you love that cake? One of my favorite mission comps made that cake, all I have to say is not only does it look fabulous, but it tasted amazing! Whitey is not a big cake guy and he LOVED the cake! She is a professional, if you want a cake her website is http://cakesbynatasha.blogspot.com/ She is able to do pretty much anything.

Summer... so far

Sammie trying to fall asleep

Sammie during the annual Melville olympics in Sun
Valley she was on the Blue team hence the Bandana.

So the summer is almost half over... Crazy! I can't believe Samantha is almost one. My little girl is getting so big and showing a lot of spunk. Some of the funny things she does is when she falls asleep she likes to suck her thumb and pull your hair. If I try to look at her she pushes my head to the side so she can grab a hold of my hair. She also LOVES food, if I don't get food out fast enough for her she puts both arms out in front of her body tenses them up and screams. She says dada, mom, "HI!", eyes, and waves goodbye. She also loves to pet dogs and say "oooohhh, oooohh" she thinks its very soothing and nice of her. She is crawling around and sticking everything in her mouth and can walk around with help. This last weekend she was standing up all by herself and would hold a stand still for a couple seconds.

Her favorite things are swimming, reading books (her favorite books are goodnight moon 123, Noisy pals from costco with the animals that make noises, my daddy and I, and Sandra Burton books). She LOVES Mickey Mouse clubhouse but only until the opening song is over, she likes to dance to the opening song and then she is off to her toys. She also loves popsicles and diet coke... thanks to Grandma Shari.

Our family just got back from the annual Melville vacation to Sun Valley. All of Whitey's aunts uncles and cousins go on this trip and it is a blast. Before the trip we had a girls night with everyone and did sparkle toes, had so much fun that Sid, Clara and I decided to buy the stuff so we could do our own . I must say they are super cute and so fun to do. We also rode bikes, swam, and sammie's favorite thing was probably feeding the horses and the one duck in the Sun Valley pond. We tried to feed the swans but then one hissed at me like a cat so sammie and I decided we were done with that. They were nesting according to the caution signs, so I guess hormones were running high and they were a little cranky.

I'll be right there

So this weekend Whitey's cousin Joe and his wife Brenda invited us up for a fun weekend in St. George.  We are having a blast, but today as Brenda, Sammie and I are sitting in the car waiting for the boys I looked at Brenda and said "why are all the girls in the car waiting for the boys?" Then we were commenting on how a lot of times people will say they are ready, but in reality they still have to brush their teeth and go to the bathroom before they can actually walk out the door.  We've all been guilty of this some time or other.  Then the boys came and we went on a hike.
Well then after the hike it was time for the pool.  Sammie is in love with the pool, she splashes and splashes.  Well we get done at the pool and decided that we would go back to the condo to shower. So the boys decide to go into the bathroom at the clubhouse... not sure why so I passed Sammie to Whitey since he was going to the dressing room and said "change her diaper before we go, because she still has her swim diaper on" Well after we had been waiting a couple minutes and no boys I opened the boys dressing room only to find Whitey brushing his teeth holding Samantha with her swim diaper still on.  So I grab Samantha as Whitey continues to brush his teeth and change her in the Womens dressing room and come out to see Joe and Brenda waiting.  I ask Joe where Whitey is and he says still in the bathroom.  Then I ask Joe if he will go get him. Joe comes back and says "he is shaving".  I was stunned... seriously he doesn't love shaving why is now the best time?  Whitey walks out a few minutes later and I look at him and say "why are you making everyone wait for you?"  He says "I went into the dressing room and they had toothbrushes with toothpaste in the brush and I had to try it" then I guess he decided to try the complimentary razors while he was at it.  So then as I try to explain to him he can take the toothbrush and razor home with him and not make us wait, trying not to get mad he turns to his cousin and says "hey Joe look it's your old car!"  All I have to say is WOW, just WOW!  Where do men come from?

Practice Makes Perfect!

Sammie reading to herself

My husband is convinced that my sisters and I are the most uncoordinated people he's ever met.  I can't say I totally disagree we have a tendency to trip, run into things, get in accidents etc.  But I must say he is a little fixated on it which creates a prejudgement.  Lets be honest he gets into accidents too, in fact he backed into a 15 passenger van that was parked directly behind him two years ago which he claims "he didn't see, because he was distracted" yet he still claims to be "a professional".  I do have to admit he is a very good driver, he can spot things from far away that I would never see, including deer (I chanced to hit a deer last year).  Well this weekend he was able to chalk up another incident of me being uncoordinated. Gaurantee I will be hearing about this for the next month.
I was trying to get sammie to sleep so I could run to get something at the store Saturday night.  For some reason she wasn't going to sleep, so I told Whitey to just watch a show with her as she fell asleep.  I was bringing her downstairs to him when three stairs down I slipped and fell backward.  Seeing I was holding Sammie, I couldn't catch my fall so my upper back caught my fall (don't worry sammie stayed in my arms).  Whitey ran over to assist us because I started screaming in pain and the wind was knocked out of me so I was trying to breath.  as I layed there on the ground I didn't know what to do because I was in so much pain but not paralyzed, but my left arm was tingling and numb.  Whitey called his parents and they came over, they suggested I go to a doctor. Next problem was moving me, since it was my back that was injured, they called the ambulance.  Lets just say this was probably one of the more embarrassing moments in my life, riding in an ambulance for tripping down the stairs... definitely not a moment of glory. I tried to focus on the fact that I "saved the baby"  but it didn't quite make me feel better.  Well after a couple hours in the ER, an xray, and some amazing pain killers,  I am back home. Thankfully nothing was broken, I just felt like I ran into a brick wall.  The best part of the story is that Whitey felt the need to show me how he walks carefully down stairs.  But I have to say last time I had an accident he wanted me to go with him to a parking lot to practice parking, so at least he isn't making me practice walking down the stairs holding a baby doll. Well don't have the picture of me on the back-board with my C-collar.  But above are some cute pics of Sammie Scout.
